Yard, picket fence and motor home, it’s the Canadian dream. To pick up and go, trekking from park to park, without foregoing any of the essential conveniences of home. In winter time, these dream machines look a bit like stranded whales. In Robert’s photo, created for a photo-documentary series on the theme of “fences” while at art school, the two fences clearly delineate a yard, a modest city space buried in snow, with the vehicle representing a chance to momentarily escape. The fence also acts as a kind of stop sign, a caution against materialism and a life which starts and ends with consumer-packaged vacations.
