Shortly after moving to Halifax, Robert enrolled in a weekend workshop in screen printing and this was the first work he produced, based on a charcoal sketch of trees at Point Pleasant Park. At this time, Robert supplemented his income through the sale of low-priced prints. Just as he had created scenic views of his hometown of Windsor which he sold in the tourist bureau and other venues, so he has created appealing views of Halifax. What’s interesting about this work is the contrast of different shapes of trees and the way Robert is able to capture the sense of a hillside ridge without drawing anything other than the trees and their shadows.
