The movie poster in the background is for Buster Keaton’s Free and Easy, 1930, a film about a woman who travels to Hollywood to become a film star. Robert’s girlfriend Heather is on the phone, while an image of a car appears on a TV screen. The man in the room looks a bit like Keaton, an actor who famously stepped in and out of the screen in one of his films to engage with different levels of reality.  In the final image, Robert does away with the Keaton reference and makes this a self-portrait.
