This invitation card announces Robert’s graduation show at NSCAD. “Oppositions” was the perfect theme for Robert, who was particularly gifted at finding and creating visual contrasts. The poster features Robert’s image, Nail Garden, a collage of flowered wallpaper with 2” nails glued on top. While Robert would abandon many of his art student practices, such as appropriating found objects, collage remained an important element in his work. Robert built on the idea of oppositions or dynamic interactive contrasts throughout his career, exploring elements such as male and female, nature and technology, illness and health.
