Robert’s 4th floor Argyle Street studio was located above the Seahorse Tavern and across the street from the Chronicle Herald newspaper building. Here a large truck arrives with supplies of paper. This may have reminded Robert of how he grew up in a house with a publishing business attached to it. He may have been struck by the dark coffin-shaped windows or by the way the right angles of the building and crane act as a framing devise to form a picture within a picture. In the background, Citadel Hill and the Old Town Clock preside over the business of the city. It is worth noting that in the geography of the actual city the clock is located at the foot of the hill and would not be visible from this vantage point. Robert hints at the idea that the clock is being raised by the crane to be taken away. New construction is causing us to lose touch with our history. On a personal note, Robert sees time disappearing.
