Terry Fox (1958- 1982) was a Canadian athlete who lost a leg to cancer. Despite his handicap, he started a marathon run in Newfoundland on April 12, 1980 and then continued in Nova Scotia on his way across the country. After a run through Sheet Harbour with some school children on May 15, Fox wrote in his journal: : “When I ran with the kids I really burned it just to show them how fast I could go. They were tired and puffing. All right!” He was in Dartmouth on May 20. Robert admired Terry Fox as a true Canadian hero. In all, he made 5 drawings of Terry Fox. This drawing shows the marathon runner jogging on his artificial leg; conditions are wet with reflections rippling across the empty street. Fox passes Citadel Hill with the Old Town Clock rising up in the distance: his greatest obstacle is time.
