Robert’s studio was a five minute walk to the waterfront and this is a view he would have seen regularly. The speed boat, with its crowded party of sightseers, may represent a modern-day ship of fools. The boat speeds between two large building complexes sitting like fortresses on the Dartmouth side of the harbour. The oil refinery, with its massive storage drums and cluster of tall chimneys, is located beside the Nova Scotia Hospital, with its non-descript block-like façade. Robert hints at a connection between the fossil fuel industry and community health risks, as the boat travels in a straight line from one to the other.
