This illustration for the Lancelot Press book, Suzanne’s Natural Food Cookbook places food in a landscape, suggesting a link between healthy environments and healthy foods. Robert even makes the food look like part of the landscape: the tofu resemble rocks and the twisting strands of hijiki echo the curving patterns of the waves. Each chapter in this Macrobiotic cookbook featured a title page using an illustration by different local artists selected by Robert. Robert designed the book and illustrated the book’s cover, as well as the title pages for the chapters, “Sea Vegetables” and “Pickles.”
